  1. You making me laugh. There are no laws like this in the UAE.

You are mixing up UAE with KSA, Iran, Nigeria etc.  In the UAE nobody's hand will chopped off. This punishment may happen only in countries which follows strictly Sharia Law.

May I ask where you are from asking such a question about Dubai?

  2. I'm a little bit disturbed by the word "still" in your question.

Does it mean there was a precedent then? May I know where did you get the fact that indeed hands are being chopped in Dubai in the past?

For the record, hands are not being chopped of those being caught stealing. They are referred to the Dubai Court who will determine the crime and if found guilty, are being sent to jail to serve time with corresponding fines and for expats- are being sent back to their home country stamped with travel ban after completing the served time.

  3. Oh dear u sound like a middle east phobic.  Dubai is a very cosmopolitan place where you can drink alcohol, sunbathe in a bikini etc.  If people break the law here then you go to court like in most countries.  Don't confuse Dubai and the UAE with Saudi Arabia, this is a very different place where capital punishments exist.  If sharia law is broken there then people there are flogged, hands cut off or for rape or murder they are beheaded.  In saudi it's illegal for a woman to speak to a male she is not related to unless chaperoned by male family member and it's illegal to drink or if you're a woman not to be covered all except eyes.. You see the difference?

  4. Did you resolve to ask a random question about a random city today?
