Question:

Dwarf Hamster sick? Possibly mites?

I have a male Russian Dwarf hamster, I'd guess around 9 months old, and he's not looking too great lately. He's lost a good amount of hair on the bottom of his body; most of that is likely due to Diabetes, which I've already got him on a diet for.

But over the past 5 days or so, I've noticed him scratching and biting more than normal, mostly around his bottom. I've been thinking it could be mites, but I'm not so sure since it's only the bottom half of his body. I've taken a couple pictures of him...

Turned over, belly side up: http://i37.tinypic.com/zsgus.jpg

(The white thing on his belly is just a piece of shell from the seed he's eating.)

From the behind/side: http://i33.tinypic.com/2dl2f0i.jpg

(Bad picture, couldn't get him to sit still.)

It's not Wet Tail, I'm sure of that, don't bother bringing that up. He eats/drinks/pees/poops/sleeps/exercises like normal. He's been doing this odd little thing where he'll dart around the cage quickly, come to a dead stop and immediately start biting/scratching himself.

Any ideas?
