EBAY!.outbidding straight away?

Question

how come as soon as i bid on an item. usual i am the first bidder. it tells me straight away that i am outbid. then i bid again and i could do this a 2 more times and it seys the same.i swear that there isnt even some body else bidding. i dont understand it and it anoys me. why does it keep making it say that i have been oubid when i swear its not.thanks!

It's an Auction site. Bids will go up.You can check to see who else is bidding unless you missed the link for it.

It's called proxy bidding.

Lets say I see this item for an auction listed at $10 and I'll put my maximum bid of what I want to get it for of $30. ebay records the opening bid for me automaticlly at $10. Les say you see the same item at $10 and bid $11. eBay will proxy in my bids to a bid just over yours lets say at $11.05. You wouldn't be able to out bid me until you exceeded my $30.

eBay uses an automatic bidding system to make bidding on auctions more convenient and less time-consuming for bidders. There is nothing you have to set up in order to bid in this way. When you bid on an auction style listing you will be placing bids using this method.

Here's how bidding on eBay works:

When you place a bid, you enter the maximum amount you're willing to pay for the item. The seller and other bidders won't know your maximum bid amount.

eBay places bids on your behalf starting with the next bid increment for the auction. eBay will bid as much as necessary to make sure that you remain the high bidder. eBay would keep bidding for you until bidding reaches your maximum amount.

If another bidder has placed the same bid before you or a higher maximum bid, eBay would let you know that you've been outbid so that you can place another bid if you want.

However, if no other bidder has a higher maximum bid at the end of the auction, you win the item even if your bid doesn't go as high as your maximum bid. You could pay significantly less than your maximum price. This means you don't have to keep coming back to re-bid every time another bid is placed.

they can set it so that they place a high bid and it slowly increases as other people bid.
