Question:

Eagle Scout Hours Requirement

I recently finished the actual instalation of my eagle project and am now on to the paper work section. My total hours add up to 228 including my hours and other peoples hours. My scout master seems to think this is not enough to earn the eagle badge because he believes i need somewhere around 500 hours to show leadership, however im running low on time as my 18th birthday is coming up and im wondering if this will be enough. How many hours are typical?

  1. Hello Jensen:

Here is the current requirement (#5)

"While a Life Scout, plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, school, or community. (The project should benefit an organization other than Boy Scouting.) The project idea must be approved by the organization benefiting from the effort, your Scoutmaster and troop committee and the council or district before you start. You must use the Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook, BSA publication No. 18-927, in meeting this requirement."

There is no set labor-hour time requirement, you should not have any problems. Make sure your write-up is detailed, and that you can show you met the requirements of benefiting a non-BSA organization, and that you had approval from your Scoutmaster and the District or Council. If you have questions, you should contact your District/Council's Eagle Scout Coordinator.

    Keep on Scoutin'
