Question:

Ear nipping, or biting?

I have two female rats. One, Alice, usually grooms the other one, Bella. When she grooms her, she starts to nip/bite Bella's ear. Bella immediately pulls away and always squeaks. I know they love to play and groom each other, but sometimes Alice just comes up and bites Bella's ear! Both girls are affectionate and sweet, very smart, and love to play. Neither are the least bit aggressive to humans. Why is it that Alice always wants to bite Bella's ears?? I've notice a little scab and possibly some skin tearing off of one of Bella's ears....is this serious? They absolutely love each other and I couldn't imagine how lonely they would be if there were to be separated.... :(

  1. I don't know a whole lot about rats more about mice but I do think you have a problem here. Is there blood? are there chunks out of Bella's ears?
