Well, I have my ears double peirced. The second holes were done just recently. It's been 6 weeks but they are having trouble healing and so I can't take them out. But when I went to the Orthodontist they made me take them out for X-Rays and once I took them out they hurt going in and I had to nurse them back to being ok (and not red or painful). But I go to the dentist for the first time today (I switched dentists) and I think they might do X-Rays. And if so they'll make me take my earrings out. What should I do?

  1. well u dont really have a choice because the X-rays will pull at metal and it would hurt a heck of a lot more to keep them in then to take them out for a few minutes. adn they shouldn't hurt i got mine done for 2 weeks and had to take them out for it and they were fine.

  2. Hello, The reason the DDS wants you to take the ear rings out is so that when they take the Xray they don't block the view of dental structures....Unless the Xray is designed to get a picture of the jaw joint, the ear ring shouldn't be in the way....Regardless, your getting an important dental evaluation and ear rings have to take second place in the position of importance...Good luck and I wish you well.

  3. Apply some lubricant like vaseline to the pierced area while removing and wearing your earrings...it will be easier and less painful

  4. Xrays do not pull at metal, the metal just shows up as a giant white spot on the film, making it un-useable. No offense, buy your teeth are more important than your pierced ears. Either take the earrings out and repierce them at a later time, or take them out and put up with the pain of putting them back in.

You can also explain your situation to the doctor and ask that xrays not be taken today. Ask that they be taken at your next appt. More than likely, the answer will be no, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

  5. put some triple-antibiotic cream on the before putting the back in,

helps them from infection, slide right back in, and heal...
