I believe Earth Hour should(if enough people cooperate) in 2009 or a near future to be held once every 4 months.

  1. i think people participate less and less. but i would completly agree with turning off the power for an hour all around the world. except for you know police departments and all. but there might be some complication with fridges and stuff. but that would be great could you imagine

  2. Great that means I get a chance to buy even more Christmas lights and maybe break a world record as having used more power in one hour that would not have been possible without earth hour.

  3. According to USA Today: "Organizers estimated that 2.2 million people and 2,100 businesses in Sydney [last year] turned off their lights, reducing the city's energy consumption by 10.2% for one hour, or the equivalent of taking 48,000 cars off the road for that time."

  4. Earth Hour is a ridiculous publicity stunt, and nothing more.

It shows the true colors of the so-called "environmental" movement......   they don't care about the environment, they are just using it as a reason to CONTROL people's behavior.

I am turning ALL of my lights on tongiht for an hour and leaving BOTH cars running in the driveway with the beams on HIGH

  5. I think it is great. What's an hour every few months?

  6. heh...  Ya, I hope all you people realize this global warming scare tactic is nothing more than a maneuver to gather the entire globe under one umbrella.  The globalists will use this as leverage as they attempt to pass "global laws" as we secretly move toward a one world government.

  7. I agree!

  8. h**l yeah

  9. Then I shall rebel!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm gonna turn ON every light, leave the furnace on 90 with the windows open, and sit outside in my v10 ford excursion revving the engine for an hour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh,I'll also get some rednecks toghether to play tug of war with pickups to see how much exhaust/tire smoke we can produce!!!!!!!

  10. That's a good idea! If everyone paricipated, it would do wonders for the earth! You should email the president!!!!

  11. OK. you all have to realise something. Saving energy is great and all, but turning off the lights for an hour is not going to do the world any big favours. In fact, it will more than likely cause more problems than anything else.

If enough people are foolish enough to participate in this event, then know this: the moment that hour is up, everone and his brother is going to be turning their electronics back on, and that will cause a power spike. A power spike is a surge through the grid that will more than likely fry your computer, your television, amongst other things. I for one will have all of my things unplugged to avoid this. And what happens if the spike creates another incident like what happened a few years back, when the entire north easter seaboard of north america blacked out for two days? You may say, "oh, its not big enough to make that happen", but then, why is it big enough to change the climate?

The earth is a ball of change that has been changing, slowly, for the past 4.5 billion years. It cycles, back and forth, between hot and warm, with climates shifting all over the place. We, as human beings, have been around for a few million at best, and only been truely sentient for the past couple hundred thousand. and its only been in the past 100-200 years that we've really started polluting the environment. Do you honestly think that the small, insignificant amount of change that we have caused has created the warming effects that we are seeing? whats 100 years to 4.5 billion?

Too many people are caught up in the trends of being "environment friendly". It's the thing to do. Its cool. Its like having a huge gas guzzling mother of car back in the 80's. It is a trend, and it will pass. Speaking of gas guzzling, thats what this is all about eh? The major powers of the world know that we are running out of oil. some effort is being put forth to alternative fuels, but in the end, the oil crisis is being somewhat twisted around by governments into this "environmentally friendly" thing to be doing. It gets people's minds off of the real issue at hand, which is that in 20 years, the world will stop because we have no oil. Yes, quite literally, the world will cease to function, and we will all get knocked down and have to try and figure out how to get up again.

What we should be focusing on, is how to adapt ourselves to the changing environment around us, and the changing energy sources. The world is changing. there is absolutely nothing we can do about it, it is a natural process much bigger than mankind. We should take the predictions of what is to come, and use them to figure out what to do in the future, rather than what to do now.

If there is anyhting I know about people, it is that the coming hour will be an inconvinience, if nothing else. when it is over, people will still turn on their lights when it is dark. they will stilluse their dishwashers, their dryers, their stoves. Energy consumption will be the same, ever rising.

That is my rant. thanks for reading this far if you have.

  12. I believe this global warming is just the Fad Trend of the Moment.  Besides, I turn my lights off every night when I go to sleep.

  13. I'll be leaving all of my lights on and driving around in my car that has no emissions.

  14. Earth Hour is an invitation to a disaster!

Electrical grid authorities try to predict the energy consumption rate many hours in advance so they know how many nuclear generators to have online. These units take days to power up and down and cannot respond to sudden changes without emergency procedures. This can require weeks to place them back into operation after an emergency shutdown.

What happens is, the nuclear generators are set to the minimum anticipated load and the peaks for the day are handled by coal, petroleum and other dirty fuels that leave large carbon deposits into our atmosphere.

If a large power demand dip is expected, as the "Earth Hour" eco terrorists would like, some nuclear generators will be shut down for a day ahead and dirty fuels will take their places **all day** that can respond at a few minutes notice.

This Earth Hour foolishness is one of the worst and foolish acts people, ignorant of electrical energy systems, can rally. Perhaps criminal charges should be concocted to silence the leaders of this foolishness. After all this is an irresponsible act nothing short of an eco criminal behaviour.

Look at the stats. It failed and if the truth be known, from people in the know, increased the carbon emmisions in areas with predominantly nuclear and cleaner energy sources.

  15. I think all of this time saving and so called energy saving c**p needs to stop and go on with what is real.

The earth has met it's match and there is nothing we can do to stop it.
