Why does the time between the arrival of the P-wave and the S-wave become greater and greater as you get farther away from the epicenter?

  1. The two waves travel at different speeds

    if the 2 waves are 250 miles apart after one hour

    then they will be 500 miles apart after 2 hours

    and 750 miles apart after 3 hours


  2. Assume that you are going to a place by flight it is P wave. The another person is stating from same place at same time but in a car. If the destination is nearer the difference between your arrival time will differ marginally. If the distance is more the difference between your arrival time will be more.If you are able to down load my web you can see the time difference increases as the distance from epicenter increases.The speed of p wave to s wave is in the ratio of 1.7 : 1.
