Does anyone know any resource (online or not) for finding the world's tree count today compared with 20 and 50 years ago? Thanks.

  1. I'm not sure about the whole world.  I mean I'm not sure there is a count.  A lot of the rainforests were burned before they were explored.  Anyway, here's a site that may help.

  2. The link to American Forests above is a good start (I worked there briefly).  They have done some extensive work in urban tree counts and deforestation issues as well.  Though this organization isn't as credible as one would hope from an environmental group -- they're very opportunistic and devote a big part of their budget to "administration".

The Arbor Day Foundation might be more help (see link below).  They're more focus on the planet than just North America.  You might want to also try The Nature Conservancy -- they have a strong focus on protecting habitat.  Thus, they might have info on tree counts available.
