  1. Edinburgh Castle is a great place to visit. Once through the main gate, you are free to wander around most of the castle. Some areas, are not open to the public, but you can walk the walls, visit the National War Memorial, St Mary's Chapel, the Regimental Museums, the Royal Apartments, the Crown Jewels of Scotland and the prison where the captured French where kept. There are plenty of other places to see and visit, and you get great views of Edinburgh, Leith and the Forth from the Ramparts.

  2. Yes you can look around inside. Most but not all of it is open to the public. You can see a 3D model of the castle and where you can go here: http://www.edinburghcastle.gov.uk/index/... :-)

  3. You get inside the castle buildings itself. The grounds are all contained within the walls, so you get to visit them too.

  4. Edinburgh Castle is misleading cos its like grounds inside the castle itself. So I guess the answer to your question is yes, you get to explore inside Edinburgh Castle. Bring walking shoes - as there is so much to see - and its goes around and around up a hill - to the highest point - which has a spectacular hall. If you go around August you might be able to catch the Edinburgh Tattoo?
