  1. I think his name was Raymond Loey..Lowey..who designed those wonderful streamlined Studebakers beginnning in 1953.  My grandfather would not buy anything but a Studebaker and owned the most beautiful 1955 Studebaker President...Huge engines and when the Hawk series and Lark series came out they were a hit...but they thought they were in the  car business when they really were in the transportration business and soon were bankrupt.

Sherman Egbert's Avanti is still being produced in Canada.  What a visionary car that was.

  2. For right now, I want the Edsel. I've been looking at the pictures. I don't know why everyone thought they were ugly.

I learned how to drive in a 1960 Studebaker Lark station wagon. My dad loved that Stude and none of my friends in school thought the car was weird or anything.

It's Stude (sounds like "stewed") and not Stud!

  3. It'sa tough choice. The Edsel symbolizes everything that was excessive and wrong about the car business. It's one of the cars that everyone thinks of when they think about that decade.

But Studeaker had some of the prettiest cars of the era. There's the 1953 Starliner coupe, the original Avanti, and Brooks Stevens' brilliant makeovers of the Golden Hawk and the Lark in the early 1960s. And don't forget the Wagonaire, with a cool sliding roof panel than anticipated GMC's Envoy by more than 30 years.

Despite the Edsel's role in American automotive history and the automatic transmission buttons located in the steering wheel hub on upscale models, Studebaker is probably the more rational choice.

  4. yes both words are spelled right...is that a question or answer Studebaker over Edsel

  5. Studebaker Cruiser! dad had one a long time ago. great car

  6. Studebaker because it can spell "STUD"

Edsel just sounds like a grama.

  7. Studebaker Golden Hawk!  Cool lines and parts-a-plenty in the South Bend area!
