Electrical emergency help!?

i was cleaning my bathroom when i realised i got water in the light switch, It was smoking so i tried to turn it off but it sparked and burnt my hand. i threw a boot at it but even though the light switch moved down the light did not go off. It is still smoking. I need someone to tell me what i should do as my mum is out and i cant get hold of her. I dont want to take drastic action as to call 999 or anything...but im scared someone is going to get electricuted please help.

  1. The problem is what  what you threw at it.  The proper thing to do would have been to throw either a flip flop or a boiled carrot.  Next time have these things on hand.


  2. Go to the main breaker box (or fuse box if you don't have breakers). Look for a 15 or 20 amp breaker (or fuse). Switch the breaker "off" and see if the light in the Bath goes off (in the case of a fuse, unscrew the fuse). If the light goes off, leave that particular breaker or fuse "off". If you switch a breaker off (or unscrew a fuse) and the light doesn't go off, switch it back "on" until you locate the particular breaker or fuse which controls the power to that particular fixture.

  3. It should be through smoking by now, just don't touch it, it should be fine as soon as it dries.
