Electrical question? PLEASE HELP?

I have had my washer and dryer for 2 years come march. NEVER had a problem until now. I can wash my clothes fine but when I need to dry them the dryer will run for about 5-10 minutes and then flip the breaker. I never had this problem until the city's electrical transmitter blew on July 4 and caught fire.

I had the ciy come out and check their end and they said it was ok at the connection on the pole, the connection on the side of my house and they checked the meter its self and said it was fine and to go ahead and call an electrician.

HOW can i tell if the pannel just needs tightened on the breaker box? and if so how can i do it myself?

what do you think could be wrong? i am trying to get through all the possibilities before calling this electrician.(when they came out before i paid the man 150.00 to tighten a s***w in just 5 minutes)

  1. Don`t you have a friend that can check things out don`t do it your self unless you know what you are doing.

  2. Try tightening the screws at the Breaker. If this does not correct the problem. I suspect your Breaker was weak or damaged when the incident took place. Replace the 30 amp. Breaker that is used for your dryer.

  3. When the transmitter blew it may have caused an electrical spike. This may have weakened your breaker. Or, it may be something as simple as the s***w that holds the wire to the breaker is loose. That would cause the wire to heat up and throw the breaker.

    Hope this helps.

  4. it will not be just a s***w..my guess is that there is now a problem with the amps r surging.......u will need a electrician..

  5. It is very easy to check. Turn off the breaker,  take the panel cover off.  tighen the two screws on the breaker.  If they are tight move the dryer away from the wall and check the dryer plug.  Remove the cover to the outlet.  (if it is recessed in a box in the wall remove the four screws and pull out the plug until you see the screws on the back of it.)  tighen all of the screws.  the wires will appear burnt or melted if they were not tight.  also look at the cord end on the dryer make sure it is not burnt.  I've seen this many times.

  6. I think your dryer is the problem.  If you had a problem related to a transformer blowing you would have lost sensitive electronic equipment not a dryer.
