Question:

Embankment overhang?

I have a hill in my yard that had trees rip out of it. There is now an embankment with an overhang. Half the hill is filled with rocks, but there is still a gap with the overhang that may collapse. What can I put on top of the rocks to stop the overhang from collapsing?? I know fill or loam may work but I don't have a back hoe and am short on money, could I put bails of hay or some other form of fill to stop the potential collapsing of the hill (also there are trees on top of the hill close to the edge of the embankment (so if it collapses the trees may collapse as well)

  1. Unfortunately, there is no easy or inexpensive fix for this. You need a professional Landscape Architect or Landscape Engineer to look at it. It sounds like the whole hillside needs shoring up. That won't be cheap. Without seeing it, but from your description, I would guess it would cost $20,000+ to fix it. And that is a LOW guess.

But without professional work, anything you do would probably wash away with the next rain. And a hard rain will probably take the rest of the hill with it.
