Question:

Engine "Miss" Causes, Etc...

I have a 2002 Dodge Intrepid and while I'm driving down the road it feels like the engine cuts out or "misses" i think maybe it would be called. I've read some stuff about maybe it being cuz the AC is on (which it always is in my car) so today I'm going to see if it does with the AC off but I was curious if anyone would know what could cause this and if it is something that needs to be fixed-if so how expensive? Etc, etc... Thanks!

  1. usually if your engine is "missing" you have one cylinder that isnt firing at the right time, or at all. could be a worn out spark plug, or problems with your distributor not delivering spark. have someone who knows cars take a look. if its just a bad spark plug, you could probably replace it yourself

  2. when an engine misses...it mean,s at least 1 cylinder is not operating properly...this will cause the engine to run rough & lag ..in power...this condition should be corrected.....but if your engine is running normaly you can expect a drop in power when your air conditioning is engauged....the amount of power loss is directly related to the horse power rating of your engine...example....a small 4 cylinder engine will seem to have a greater power loss than a larger 4 cyl. or 6 or 8 cyl. ..this is normal....the loss may seem significant but should not impede normal operation,s.you will notice a significant drop in gas milage.
