Environmental Effects of groundwater extraction?

I think it depends on the locations of where the groundwater extraction take place. Groundwater extraction is environmental concerned idea to take water out of a well. However, it cost a lot of manpower and money to produce. If anyone who is farming and dig a well to supply water for daily use, it is fine for a whole family. It is not effective and not even safe to do groundwater extraction in industrial ares as groundwater are probably contaminated by the chemical wasted materials. I think extraction from sea water to pure water is also environmental effect in comparison to groundwater extraction. However, the extracted water contains no good and healthy minerals to our body. It is to make a decision to do which extraction in terms of cost and mass production. The best idea is do something like sustainable development with conservation of more natural resoures and particularly do more on renewable resources of trees or vegetation and flowerig plants. We must have a clean environment to maintain our daily life happy and safe. I think Hoinan Island (the place where I was born) is far better than the top five most polluted and most expensive city to live in this world. Hoinan Island is the best city to live and the drinking water is clean and the air is fresh all year round!

Check out the process of overdrafting.  Cities like Newport Beach did it back when and ended up with saltwater intrusion, which contaminated the aquifer.  Subsidence is another issue relating to overdrafting that is a significant problem and will continue to be as the southwest continues to develop more heavily.

It can cause the land to shift and collapse. (Big holes/cracks in the ground or unstable land that could give way if you try to build on it!) That's what is happening here in NM:
