HR 393 looks at drafting men and women ages 18-42. As seen detailed here http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c110:H.R.393: the bill was presented in January 2007. I am a firm believer the draft is needed to protect us however, I may not always agree with the wars we decide as a country to fight. Before you tell me your opinion please give us a little information: Your country as this bill is for the USA, your gender, have you ever served, why/why not, and would you serve if drafted or would you dodge? This are important facts to be known regarding your opinion on whether the draft is an equal opportunity.

  1. There should be enough diversity in opportunities in the various branches of the military for both genders to be equally in need in time of war. Therefore, I would not be opposed to a bill that simply drafts women into the military. However, I'd imagine it'd be difficult to convince Americans that young mothers should be candidates for the draft.

    US citizen

    Dude

Never served but fully support those who do

Would accept a draft notice and serve thankfully

  2. US, Female, yes I've served US Navy MM2 SW 01-05

If drafted I would serve....more likely to get pulled back in then drafted...but thats besides the point.  No I wouldn't dodge.

I didnt sign up for the war we are in now...I was in boot camp during 911.  Continued to serve then.  The ONLY reason I got out was the kid, you cant be a good sailor and a good mother at the same time.

I'm very glad to see there is a bill out for this But I am surprised.

Would have thought the US gov would have to admit women can fight in combat first (cough cough like the military is letting them do anyway under the smoke) (cough cough like many other developed countries do)

I heard a rumor years ago about build an all female Sub...still havnt seen that.  Roughly a third of the jobs in the navy are still not open to women. Some jobs have JUST now opened up...like the two I worked have been open to women less then ten years.

Was stationed at little creek, one of the seal training bases. there are women completing buds training...but not allow to serve in the Seals.

For as ahead of it's time in race...military is still very behind in s*x.   (lol that sounds weird)

  3. IT MAKES ME MAD TO THINK THAT EVERYONE COMES UP WITH AN EXCUSE TO COME FORWARD AND DEFEND YOUR COUNTRY , THE ONLY REASON WHY WE HAVE NOT  ATTACKED AGAIN IS CUZ THEY SEE US AS A FIGHTER AND NOT A LOOSER.HIDING UNDER AN EXCUSE.  I  GIVE YOU A LITTLE INSIDE. THAT WAR IS COMING AT A PACE MUCH FASTER THEN YOU THINK.OR CLAIME TO KNOW.  I WONDER IF THE HEROES OF OUR HISTORY WOULD HAVE HIDE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPEN TO THIS AMAZING POWEFUL NATION..NOW WE HAVE EVEN MUCH MORE FREEDOM TO SHOW THE LOVE FOR OUR COUNTRY. I HAVE ALWAYS ADMIRED THE WOMENS OF OUR REVOLUTION .THEY PAID  A HIGH PRICE WITH GREAT LOSS OF THEIR LOVE ONES ,HUSBANDS AND SONS. AN ALL THE INOCENT CHILDREN THAT DIE.BUT WHO CARES ABOUT THEM ANYMORE ..PPL DON'T EVEN WANT TO READ AND LEARN THEIR HISTORY.BUT THEY LIKE TO ENJOY THE LUXURY THAT THEY INHERIT. PPL THINK IS ALL GB FALL, BUT IF IT WAS NOT CUZ HIS DETERMINATION NOT TO GIVE US A LIFE FULL OF FEAR BUT TO GIVE US SENCE OF PEACE KNOWING WE ARE STILL STRONG THANKS FOR THE CORREGIOUS MEN THAT FIGHT FOR FREEDOM. I BETIF I ASK HOW MANY OF YOU CAN NOT SLEEP THINKING THAT YOU MAY NOT WAKE UP , THAT YOU WILL WAKE UP TO TERROR WITH A PHONE CALL :"" HEY THEY BOMB YOU CITY OR YOU RELATIVE PLACE OF WORK."""

EVERY BODY JSUT COMPLAIN THEY ARE JUST HAPPY COMPLAINING. AND TAKING A GOOD  COLD DRINK AND A FANTASTIC TRIP WITH THE FAMILY.HOW GREAT IT IS TO FEEL THE SAFETY AND SECURITY.BUT WHO PAYS THE PRICE.I HAVE FAMILY IN THE SERVICE AND NOT ONE REGRET IT. I HAVE FREINDS AND LOVE ONES THAT LOST THEIR LIFE. AND THEIR FAMILY ARE CERTAIN THA THEY DIED HAPPY. I WOULD RATHER HAVE A SON OR A DAUGHTER DIE  FOR THEIR COUNTRY THEN DIE LIKE A IDIOT , IN THE HANDS OF A GANG MEMBER .AND ONE MORE THING IS THERE RAPE IN THE CIVILIAN WORLD OR NOT .DOES PPL DIE OF RAMDOM SHOOTINGS OR NOT.IS THERE REAL EQUAL OPPORTUNITY FOR ANY ONE ANY WHERE . WHAT IS SAFETY ARE OUR CHILDREN SAVE IN THEIR SCHOOLS. SO WHAT IS THE DIFRENCE

  4. australia, male, no well we dont have service or anything here so its a career choice, i may eventually join it but not as a soldier, if i was drafted i would serve but i would also protest agaisnt it, afterall i live in this country it gives me rights and i have responsabilites.

personally i would rather have a man serving next to me than a women, men have greater body potential and can reach higher levels eaiser.

oh lastly rape and sexual assualt is far more common in the military than the civlian world the defense training does **** all as the attacker is trained as well.

  5. Equal opportunity regarding the draft is a moot point for me, because I don't agree with the draft at all. I don't think it protects us; the people we have fighting for the country will do a better job if they choose to sign up of their own free will, and the military lifestyle simply doesn't suit everyone. I also believe in working towards alternatives to violence to solve our disputes.

I wouldn't mind doing something else to help the country if needed, but I wouldn't join the military. I could never hold a gun and kill someone. I'd probably hide out in Rio's basement for a while, although in a democratic country no one could force me to fight anyway. :)

  6. I think that the country has changed a lot since the last military draft. Do they really want to draft more fat and lazy college students? I' m sort of kidding but I am also opposed to military drafts. I think that men and women should have the right to resist the draft, especially if they are in school.

I've thought about serving but there are not any opportunities for Librarians in the military. Of course I would dodge! Are the stories of sexual abuse in the military true? Whether they are or not I know that joining the military is not right for I. I will support the brave individuals that do decide to serve instead.

  7. I was in the service until they kicked me out, oops my bad.

I believe the draft is a last ditch effort to get needed troops for a real war, not war on terror or war on drugs

  8. Seems you're asking the wrong question: the question should be, can a free man/woman be forced into service without a demostrated need (country at war)? I find it extraordinary that people are willing to resist service in a time of war, but no one seems to question the authority of the government to force service during a time of peace. If the country's at war, I'm much less concerned with someone's idea of whether they "agree" with the war at hand.

I think a draft should only be in place when deemed necessary, and the large technological advantage we enjoy by outspending the entire remainder of the world each year in military spending remains sufficient to permit us to defend ourselves from war, and from large-scale war from breaking out, but does not give us sufficient bodies for unilateral projection of power against any but the most primitive nations.

The question you then need to ask yourself is, on what basis would we be unilaterally projecting our military might on other nations?

My info: natural born us citizen/male/didn't serve (4F), but didn't know when I received my notice and was willing to serve--also turned out I was 3 numbers out of the draft for that year. I'm too old to be comfortable with women serving in combat roles, but since I'm not serving, who cares about my comfort level; they seem to do well in many areas. More power to them (and us).

  9. Puerto Rican by birth and hearth.

American by imposed citizenship due to the invasion of Puerto Rico by the USA in 1898.

The draft is needed to protect the country. However, how exactly was the country threatened by Iran?

I really doubt they will take me, as the times I try to enter of my own I was turned down for my sight.

But if that where the case, I would go. Then after I got trained and if I survive, I would go an kill the b******s that started the war in the first place or die in the intent. They should be held accountable for their actions. And since the law is already bought up and paid for, the only solution is that the people do it.

If I had a daughter or a son of that age, I would want to send him/her to another country. I won't want them to die so that the economical interest that control this country get more money and power. One thing is defending the country another one is dying for nothing. But at the end it would be his or her decision.

    @Rio

You must have a huge basement.

    EDIT

I think that the bill is just, even that the war isn't

  10. Maybe it's just me, but I find the idea of calling people up bizarre.

Expecting ordinary people to potentially fight a war? Probably a war they don't believe in? it may be more sensible if they had refferendums but they don't.

For example, in the UK about 90% of peopel DID NOT want war with Iraq, yet we had no refferendum. Tony Blair,, Bush's little doggie slave just shoved his head up there and war was commenced. 100's of soldiers died because of it, and now london has been bombed because they hate us.

If they had refferendums when it came to wars, then people could fight for what they wanted. But when it's 90% if the country not wanting it, but a few money hungry politicians in their security protected bubbles saying yes, it isn't right.

  11. Canada, female, no, I'm a pacifist, dodge.

If there is a draft in the U.S., all GWS chickenhawks are welcome to hide out in my basement.

  12. TRUE equal opportunity, between races, genders, ages, etc, does not exist.
