My daughter has been invited to a birthday party. The birthday boy will be 7. I want to him a present that is ethical, local, etc,and most of all, won't break the bank. I'm in the UK. any ideas?

  1. What is the date of the birthday party?  If you have a little time before this date you can order something from on-line.  I found this great website for a company based in the U.K. that sells fair trade, green products. The website is very useful because it has a variety of toys that would be entertaining to younger as well as older children. They sell musical instruments (karimbas, flutes, etc.), solar-powered toys, games, and stuffed animals.  Many of these toys average to about 20 pounds .  I apologize if the prices are too expensive. I am not used to this currency.

If you would like to check out the website, you can click the link below:

I hope I meet all your criteria.  Good Luck!

  2. Yes-ive tried this one,,,a small photo album and a samll disposable camera to record the day!!!!!,it WILL be his favourite-and the results something the parents will keep for when he's a grown up- hope you all have a lovely day x x x

  3. Think outside the box - literally.  Don't buy a product, buy a service, or even some sort of charitable donation to a worthy nonprofit.  Part of America's addiction to "stuff" is based on the fact that we learn from an early age that accumulating things is a good thing.

Buy the child a ticket to a local amusement park or something else fun to do.  Or, buy an animal from Heifer International for a needy family - kids love animals, and it will give the gift a true significance that will teach the child that not all gifts are things you can hold in your hand.

  4. How about a book?

I think you are overthinking this a bit, but how about a plant-growing kit from a nursery?  Something that will grow fast, easy, and look cool.  Sunflowers maybe? A small raspberry bush for the backyard?

Kids like having something they can take pride in, especially if they get something out of it that they like (such as raspberries that THEY grew themselves).

  5. nice l. beat me to it, i was going to suggest a plant, but maybe something that can stay in a pot (strawberry rather than raspberry maybe) otherwise it might be a good idea to liase with the parents first.

wooden things are always nice, like the snakes or a box ( ime, children can never have too many little boxes to put goodness knows what in)

  6. Hi,

The first answerer's answer was also good +1 star.

Ok leave the world of video games etc. why not go to a used bookshop where good quality used books are and he can develop his reading skills e.i a storybook/a small novel eg:Spiderwick Chronicles/A series of unfortunate events. I know your living in the UK and my mom already visited there and she knows how high cost of living there is. Try a t-shirt but we don't know an actual size he has.

Try something special, has benefits and the child would appreciate and by the way Hapi-b-day to him.
