  1. I think good manners is a fairly universal concept, but here are a few tips.

    - On the tube, stand on the right of the escalator - the left side is for people who are in a hurry. And of course, try not to stand in the way when you're reading maps etc - there are literally millions of people trying to get to work so they'll appreciate a clear pathway.

    - A lot of people think of tourists as being quite loud - I'm not sure why - so keep your voice down in restaurants etc.

You may find this interesting, though it's all fairly common sense:

There really isn't that much difference. Just don't be offended if people seem a little abrupt - most Londoners are just stressed out and busy. I think our reputation is getting better though - we're generally pretty laid-back, friendly people.

    Enjoy your trip :)

  2. We are a pretty easy-going and tolerant bunch, so there isn't much you are likely to do that will upset us.

Assuming that you don't do anything that would be frowned on at home, the only no-nos I can think of are:

    Don't jump queues.

Don't ask someone what party they vote for.

  3. Elegant gave you a pretty good list ... the only things I'd add are...

    - dress for a big city, that means don't wear the sort of colourful clothes you would wear to go to the beach

    - we tend to say "sorry" a lot, for instance if you bump into someone you would say sorry

  4. We are very reserved compared to what you are used to.  Restarant and Bar service is typically not as good as you get at home (in most pubs you get drinks from the bar - no table service).

Vehicles should stop for you at crossing points.

    Queuing almost a national sport.

Tipping is normal for cabs and restaurants but not in pubs - unless you are in a bar used by a lot of American tourists (we learn!!).

All the major tourist attractions are very visitor freindly and most brits understand American but my American freinds often have problems understanding some of our regional accents.

    Have a great trip!
