Me and a couple friends (all guys) are taking a euro trip after this school year. So it will be Summer of 2009. We want to go to Amsterdam, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Greece, and end in turkey because my friend is turkish. We are willing to travel by air sea or land. We would sleep in hostels and at friends houses. Could you please tell me where we should go exactly and give me a route that would take the shortest time while still visiting all the places i mentioned. We would be staying 2 to 2 1/2 months. How much roughly would this cost per person? thanks

  2. We returned from a trip to Europe in January. We didn't go for as long as you will and didn't see as much as you want to but here are some of the experiences from our trip:

1.) We were gone for 3 weeks, my husband and I along with our 2 year old daughter

2.) We flew to chicago and then on to Dusseldorf, Germany - a 16 hour flight all total

3.) Since we were flying in the off season, tickets for all of us cost just over $1800, rount trip. The summer is a choice time to go and so expect tickets to be $1000 - $1500 per person. Be willing to fly to anywhere, anytime and you'll find lower fares. Try out-of-the way airports too - Dusseldorf was cheaper than Frankfurt by about $200/pp.

4.) Be open to anything - for examply, just recently Virgin Airlines was selling tickets to London for about $400/pp. Go there and hop the tube/train to Germany for another $200/$300 and you're there for a cool 6 - 7 hundred. But watch out for those cheap flight sites - there are usually lots of restrictions and who knows what will happen with the airlines

5.) We invested in travel insurance - for an extra $200 - that would bu HUGE for you, especially since you'll be gone for so long and investing so much $$ in this trip

6.) We went to Germany, Amsterdam, Netherlands, Brussels, Paris and Luxembourg. I can't really give you exactly where to go since my sister and b/in-law were our tour guides...but we had a few places we wanted to see for sure and let them guide us to the rest....sounds like you have friends in those areas that could do the same. Amsterdam was awesome - and of course, Paris was breathtaking.

I imagine that you should set aside about $5K per person - the dollar isn't doing very well in Europe right now - so you have to take into consideration the exchange rate. $5K????? you ask.... well, if you figure that your plane ticket will be about 1/4th of that and you'll need $$ for train tickets, meals, admission to attractions (Napoleon's tomb in France - cool) and touristy sights - divided by the time you want to spend ...better to have to much $$ than not enough!

Before we went, even though we had family in GK, I spent hours on the website, reading travel guides and planning the trip, money-wise as close as I could....it really helped to familiarize myself with the transportation options and hotels and customs, etc...of other countries!

It will be the best time - have fun!

  3. Solve it yourself, honey. Take a map, then do a sort of connect-the-dots thing going through the places you want to visit.

Check out hostelworld.com and pricerunner.com for prices on hostels and tickets, respectively. Good luck!

  4. wow thats a lot of money youre going t o spend on this trip...anyway decide first which will be your first destination make sure it will be from route to route...go by plane make sure you book it early, talk to some airlines who can give you a good deals ...sometimes if you go by group they will give you a good price on that...when you guys reach your destination share rooms...dont go in the fancy  restaurants, make sure you visit all the best tourist spots you will have fun oh yeah from your destination if you can rent a car you can do that do...but for 2 1/2 mos...mostly you will spend $6,500/head.Thats the nearest estimation i can give you ...i've been there so have fun...and von  voyage!

  5. exactly what she said. search Europe trans. check how much it would cost for train tickets from city to city, time, etc. decide how many days you want to spend in each place and what you want to do. Pair up the dates with the Train schedules. then air plane tickets which are expensive. have fun. enjoy.
