  1. I'm a Christian, but I don't entirely doubt evolution.  I do believe God created man in His image, but maybe that image has changed.  As I recall, there's no rule in the bible that says man has always remained the same (but I'm not an expert, either).  The funny thing is, I know a lot of super-conservative Christians (if you believe in evolution you're going to h**l types) that will believe in the evolution of non-human animals.  HMMMM.  I know you said no Bible sources, but it's just my opinion.

  2. 1)  Women evolved, too.  There's no need to be sexist - the correct term is "human evolution."

    2)  I can't believe they're actually assigning projects like this at school.  Religion is religion, and science is science - they shouldn't be mixed.

The truth is that ALL of the scientific evidence points to evolution.  The ONLY argument against it is religious.  Religion has no place in a science classroom, or in a public school.

Are they also having you debate whether the Earth revolves around the sun?

  3. I am undecided about this subject, but I have always wondered why, if evolution is a fact, you need different sexes to perpetuate the species.  It seems superfluous.  Surely we would all propogate in a much neater and easier way.

    My thoughts, anyway.

  4. Let's look at Evolution for a minute. We seemed to have established that it is a theory, correct? If we call it a theory then it must be a hypothesis or in simple terms, a guess. But why do we teach it in schools if it IS just a theory? If we teach the THEORY of evolution, shouldn't we teach creationism as well? You don't have to be a Christian to believe in creationism. It just means that you believe some other form of higher intelligence created us. I just happen to think that it takes less faith to believe a God created us rather than believing that in over 2 billion years of random processes created the world as you and I know it today.

Now, the actual answer to your question is quite simple. Evolution is a theory, an invalid one at that. I don't say this because of my beliefs but because of what SCIENCE, yes, science, has proven. Think about the origin of the first living cell according to evolution. Out of a cataclysmic event of two non-living things, we get a cell. A LIVING cell. SCIENCE says that all life comes from life. This was proven by a very well-known scientist named Loius Pasteur. If you need more info, look at the source below.

  5. evolution is a theory.  it hasn't been proven therefore it's still a theory.  there is an enormous amount of evidence that it's almost irrefutable.  it's all in what you believe though.

  6. Theories in science contain facts, young and ignorant lady. The bible is not against it, as myths usually only contain useful metaphor and ethical strictures.

  7. Evolution is just a theory.  Try finding the book "Unlocking the Mysteries of Creation" or "Darwin's Black Box" if you want some books for the other side.  But everyone, even evolutionists, should admit that it's a theory (although they'll probably say it's practically a fact).

  8. It is a theory.  But you must first know what a scientific theory is.  A theory can never become a fact.  A scientific fact is an observable event.  A hypothesis is then made to try and explain that event (scientific fact).  If that hypothesis is falsifiable, and it is supported and holds up to scrutiny, it then becomes a scientific theory.  Basically, a theory in scientific terms is something that explains facts.  Therefor evolution can never become a fact, since it is a theory.  And it is a very supported theory.

It is fact that gene pools will change over time.  It is also fact there there are many, many different gene pools on the planet (species).  Evolution is the theory that explains these facts.

  9. It is a theory because it is a testable, or something like that. All i know is that its a theory and it hasnt been proven yet.

I do believe in the Theory of Evolution or Natural Selection and the Origin of Species.

Fossil records seem to support these theories.

Many people don't believe it because they really don't understand how long it took(i dont think any of us can really understand how long millions of years is)

The bible says that the world was created in 7 days but it doesnt define day, so i think you could believe in both.

I read that someone posted how come monkeys arent evolving into humans now if they had evolved into us before.

First of all any significant evolution takes millions of years, and it is all luck, because the lucky ones with beneficial mutations survive. Also monkeys currently live in forests and jungles. Why would they evolve into humans, who are more suited for open environments?

Search in yahoo, "chimps more evolved humans." It is an article on how chimps have evolved more than us.

I think human evolution has really slowed. It is no longer survival of the fittest, or luckiest. Ever humans banded together in tribes, we have been caring for the weak for the most part. Today, do the out of shape or stupid die out? No.

Bact to your question, the evolution of man is a theory, I definitely believe in it and I come from a monotheistic family(not that it should matter).

  10. Let's see now about 'theories'.

The theory of relativity by Einstein is just a plain THEORY - not a fact.

And the theory of evolution is another THEORY and not a fact.

  11. I believe in evolution and the Bible.  There are just to many facts to support evolution.  In the Bible it states "God Works In Mysterious Ways.  I believe that.  For those who say we were descended for apes or monkeys.  Evolution does not support that.  We are descended from a common ancestor.

  12. i dont need that to make me a full member of society

  13. It is a scientific theory, and in science, no theory can ever be proved, only disproved. There is so much evidence in support of evolutionary theory, both in the extensive fossil record, and DNA, that even the Catholic church has come to accept it as fact, with only the fundamentalists holding out, which is interesting, because it is the Catholics who decided many hundreds of years ago exactly which documents were to make up the "bible", and there are many extremely controversial ones sealed up in the the vaults of the Vatican, which they will let no one see, to copy or study.

  14. The idea that man has evolved is a fact. The way that he has evolved is theory. Where did he come from? What caused him to evolve the way he did? Where will evolution take him?

  15. Evolution in general is a fact that's beyond debate really.  After all, we can, have, and continue to observe it.  So your question really seems to be about humanity specifically.  In other words, you could boil your question down to its more fundamental principle:  Are humans different from every other type of organism in the world?  In other words, is it possible that we're some how so completely special as to be the only species that hasn't evolved?

Answering yes to that question is difficult at best.  All of the evidence in the world suggests that we have evolved here to our present form, while none suggests that we haven't.

So why do people have such difficulty accepting the concept of human evolution?  It appears to be that we're uncomfortable with the idea that "authorities" are wrong on occasion.  You're in school, so one thing that you'll find as you go on in school is that more and more, your teachers and professors will start to use the phrase, "we don't know" in response to your questions.  For young people in particular, and for anyone not well educated about some subject, the idea of not knowing something is frightening.  Little kids, for example, always want to know if something is yes or no, black or white, etc.  So we grow into this acceptance of ambiguity with increasing education on any subject.

It wouldn't make sense to tell a small child that humans evolved from other, now extinct apes, so our society made-up a myth that was easy for children to understand (that God magically placed us here).  It still serves great purpose in providing emotional security to kids, but is unnecessary to some one educated in the subject because the evidence so clearly shows how we evolved.

It's unfortunate that schools in the US typically omit discussion of human evolution out of fear of religious reprisal.  You should be grateful that your teachers encourage you to explore the concepts and evidence at all.  Many of us never get the chance.  Good luck with the paper!

  16. oh my God! im doin a project on it too, evolution to me is a myth, because im a Christian, they say we have 99% of a primates DNA, and we also have 50% of bananas DNA, but do we look like a banana? thats what my science teacher told me! but good luck on the project, and look some stuff up to

  17. I truly believe in the theory of evolution. I do not 100% believe in Darwinism. Only because if we were to have evolved from monkeys, then why aren't monkeys changing into humans now. My idea maybe a little farfetched but of course we are cellular beings, so its is possible that we could be something like a single-celled organism that evolved into a multicellular organism. Evolution is proven because until thiis day we can see caterpillars turning into butterflies, ants with wings, even flying roaches. In some aspects if you believe science then science kind of contradicts the bible.

    Dr. Evol said it best.

The theory of evolution is jes a theory. How did we actually come into being. If we have, all of the dinosaurs have been extinct. or are they. Woudl reptiles be considered in the same catagory as dinos or not. The only real links that we have with each other is that we are all composed and live off of atoms, we all reproduce (some way or another), and whether endoskeletal or exoskeletal we generally have the same make-up as all other species on this planet. So what could we have evolved from.
