Why did you leave? Did you stay sober after leaving? How long ago was your last meeting?

Thanks

  1. I left because there comes a point where AA itself can become a dependency. I have remained sober, and my last meeting was in 2002. Though I have had a couple of lapses, I haven't fully relapsed. And I haven't used or lapsed for 18 months. Good luck with your recovery. Peace M.

  2. I left because I wanted to do drugs and drink...  I go every once in a while when I'm feeling bad about myself but I don't stay for long.

    Good Luck!

  3. I left because, although the social support and behavioral guidelines were useful for a couple of years, after that, the meetings and the entire program began to have a negative impact on me.  There is a huge emphasis on group-think which is extremely unhealthy.  There is a lot of abuse within the program but no mechanism to deal with it.  And so few people are even helped by the program.

I am 10 years sober.  I left AA a year ago.  I did go to one meeting in late 07 but was sickened by it, literally sickened to hear a bunch of people talk about how much more honest they are than "normal" people...which was SO not true...I KNOW those people and they are not honest at all!
