Excess baggage?

Do airlines have a maximum allowance for excess baggage? I understand that the weight of the plane is a factor they consider before they take off, but if I bring, let's say, 100 kilos of baggage can I just pay extra for them to take it? If the plane is too heavy, will they put it on the next flight? Or will they actually forbid me from allowing the luggage to be checked in?

  1. Be careful of the weight! My son was traveling JetBlue in April and his bag was 3 lbs over their weight limit. They actually charged him $50!!!!

For 100% accurate information, go to the website of the airline you will be traveling on. They should have all the answers to your questions. If not, call them!!!

  2. Yes -- there is a maximum that each bag can weigh no matter how much you're willing to pay).  The baggage handlers have to pick up these bags, and it is unsafe for them to pick up bags over a certain weight.  It will vary from airline to airline, so check out their website.

They will NOT put your baggage on another flight.  YOU need to travel on the same slight as your luggage.

Depdning on what your are carrying, and where you are going, you might want to consider mailing some items ahead of time.  It might be cheaper, and you won't have to carry stuff around with you.
