I HATED THIS BOOK.  it's on my list of books I will never forgive myself for wasting precious time reading.  yuck,

basically it's this TOTALLY OVERBLOWN investigation into the interior self with the jungle as a metaphor for "finding the self" and it's supposedly autobiographical - so boring.  it's totally male oriented and existenialist in the annoying sophomoric way.  I'm SO sorry you need to read this.

It's a book about self discovery. I'd define the story as an allegory. Pay attention to the details otherwise you'll completely miss the point of the book.
