Exposed 2x4's in ceiling?

Question

I recently got a home that needs some work and i have an exposed beam/2x4's in the ceiling where a room was added on,How do i fix it or what do i do with them? It is an eyesore,I added a link to a pic of it.

What the c**p!!!! Looks like someone had built a wall and just took out the framing and left the frame headers..If that was me I would see if I could get those down without tearing up the ceiling and them patch and finish and repaint the entire ceiling.. If that is not the case I would encase them with drywall and all the way across the entire room to make them look like a beam....

You need a professional carpenter or contractor to do the reinforcing that is needed. A wall was removed and the integrity of the ceiling/ roof is now in question.  A new beam could be installed across the area and then either finished in natural wood or sheet rock and paint to the desired finish.  The prepurchase home inspection should have noted this problem and repairs made before closing.

Judging by the crack in the sheetrock, you need to cut off the nails and put the studs back in.  That is where an existing wall used to be.  If the joists in the ceiling land on that wall, then you could have a serious issue.  New beam or wall needs to be installed.

you could cover it with drywall and paint or cover it with stained cedar. you would have to cut off those nails that are sticking out. There are alot of possibilities. You could also use 1/4" luan plywood to box it in. Cheapest thing would be to cut off nails. Caulk along edges then prime and paint.

That was where a partition wall was.  Pull the 2x4 plates down, if there is Sheetrock is above the plates, it is non-supporting.  If when you pull it down and the joists are doubled.   It was a support wall and a much heavier header is needed.   Either way the 2 x 4s have to go.

Yep, that is an eyesore.  Box it with either sheetrock or pine.  Pine would let you stain and distress it for architectural interest.  Sheetrock could be ainted to blend in with the ceiling.

You can cover it with sheet rock, and make it look like your ceiling. Now if it is like a "door" cut out that leads into another room, and your a pretty good carpenter you can be more creative. You can case it in wood and then trim it out with molding and actually make it look like it belongs. I hope that helps you! Good luck with the home!
