I have made an appeal with extenuating circumstances of mental illness because I marginally failed the offer, the references from my school have been good - do you think they will reconsider positively? If the medical reports tips them in the opposite direction and they think im unfit for the course because of my mental illness, can they be accused of discrimination?

  1. Hey, sorry to hear that you had to deal with a mental illness. That is tough... Anyway, all you have to do is convince them that everything is under control. Unfortunately, even though it is unfair for them to not allow you to take the course, it is not discriminatory. Colleges can do whatever they want in this case because students are investments and liabilities... I remember reading about a top university that would expel students upon first attempt of suicide. Makes sense, but moreover, they typically did not allow those students to return.

Anyway, I hope that doesn't discourage you from pressing on in this situation. If you show tenacity and drive, most rational university officials would see it as a positive predictor of success. Good luck!
