Question:

Eye Damage from Laser?

So the other day, I was at Petco shopping for some cat food. I saw a cool laser that said "Cat Laser- Fun For Your Cats!" I thought to myself, "Cool." Then I started to play with the laser by pointing it at the ground. I know this may sound really stupid, but is it possible the laser could have reflected off the ground and hit my eye to cause damage? The ground was kind of shiny, looks white, like the ones you see at supermarkets. P.S.- I don't suffer from pain blurrineess, floaters. etc.

  1. You should be fine.

I accidentally did that on a waxed hardwood floor, when it reflex the floor should have obsorbed most of the light, unlike a mirror or foil.

If you still are worried, go visit your optometrist.

  2. You should be o.k since your eyes don't  get blurry or any vision defects.

If the laser is o.k for the cat it should be o.k for you too. Just don't point laser to your eyes.

  3. You didn't damage your eyes, if you had, trust me, you would know about it. Your eyes would be blurry, painful, or light sensitive. You are not suffering from any of that, so don't worry. Of coarse you don't want to shine the laser directly in your eye for an extended period of time but if it was dangerous for the light to reflect off the floor into your eye for a couple of seconds, the FDA wouldn't allow the laser to be sold. Don't worry, your fine. If you are still concerned, get your eyes checked.

  4. I would highly doubt it but prolonged exposure to lasers can definitely damage your eyes. You'll be fine once or twice off.

    Stu :-)
