  1. LoopdaLoop - instead of eye drops try GenTeal lubricating eye gel (eye gels are usually recommended for older people).  Use the gel in the mornings (before you put in your contacts) and at night before bed.

The eye gel looks a little like vaseline (clear lubricating gel) but it turns to liquid in the eye to form a protective film.  It's VERY soothing.

You can buy GenTeal at your local drugstore.

  2. I would first recommend an eye exam to determine the cause of the dry eye - contact lenses, allergies, etc

I would also recommend a omega-3 supplement - this can help your body produce thicker tears that stay and coat your eye better.

I would also be interested in the type of contact lenses you wear and the solution you use.  There are a few contact lens brands that tend to work better for dry eyes and OptiFree Replenish solution also seems to work well for patients with dry eye problems.

But first and foremost, I would see your eye doctor to discuss your problem and possible solutions.
