F1 Visa Extension?

My Student Visa is going to expire next month... I have violated it's use by not attending school for atleast one year.. Is it possible to apply for renewal?

  1. Enroll again and renew your student visa but cite valid reasons why you did not attend school for a year.

It depends.  Even if your school is willing to take you back and will give you a new I-20, because you have been out of status for a year you can't extend your stay in the US.  You have to go back home and apply for a new student visa.  Then it is up to the consular officer to decide if you appear to be a serious student, and did not violate any of the terms of your prior visa by, for example, working illegally.

  4. Technically no.  However, many schools are not very strict about their rules and will let you back in.  However, if you're planning to disregard basic (and very simple) rules regarding your visa, perhaps you should leave and come back on a more appropriate category (ie. B-2 Tourist Visa).
