  2. DURING RAIN RAIN DROPS ACT AS A PRISM(3 DIMENSIONAL STRUCTURE).

WHEN SUNLIGHT ENTERS THE RAIN DROP DISPERSION OF LIGHT TAKE PLACE (SPLITING INTO 7 COLORS , V I B G Y O R).

THEN AT THE END OF THE RAIN DROP TOTAL INTERNAL REFLECTION TAKES PLACE .AND THE BAND OF 7 COLORS IS DIRECTED TOWARDS THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF THE SUN WHICH WE SEE AS A RAINBOW (THE MIX UP BAND OF 7 COLORS ) ..

WE CAN  ALSO SEE  A RAINBOW AT WATERFALLS , FOUNTAINS .HERE TINY WATER DROPLETS ACT AS A   PRISM.

  3. Rainbows are optical and meteorological phenomena that cause a spectrum of light to appear in the sky when the Sun shines onto droplets of moisture in the Earth's atmosphere. They take the form of a multicoloured arc, with red on the outer part of the arch and violet on the inner section of the arch. More rarely, a secondary rainbow is seen, which is a second, fainter arc, outside the primary arc, with colours in the opposite order, that is, with violet on the outside and red on the inside.

A rainbow spans a continuous spectrum of colours. Traditionally, however, the sequence is quantised. The most commonly cited and remembered sequence, in English, is Newton's sevenfold red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. "Roy G. Biv" and "Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain" are popular mnemonics.

The rainbow's appearance is caused by dispersion of sunlight as it goes through raindrops. The light is first refracted as it enters the surface of the raindrop, reflected off the back of the drop, and again refracted as it leaves the drop. The overall effect is that the incoming light is reflected back over a wide range of angles, with the most intense light at an angle of 40°–42°. The angle is independent of the size of the drop, but does depend on its refractive index.

A rainbow does not actually exist at a particular location in the sky. It is an optical illusion whose apparent position depends on the observer's location and the position of the sun. All raindrops refract and reflect the sunlight in the same way, but only the light from some raindrops reaches the observer's eye. This light is what constitutes the rainbow for that observer. The position of a rainbow in the sky is always in the opposite direction of the Sun with respect to the observer, and the interior is always slightly brighter than the exterior. The bow is centred on the shadow of the observer's head, or more exactly at the antisolar point (which is below the horizon during the daytime), appearing at an angle of 40°–42° to the line between the observer's head and its shadow. As a result, if the Sun is higher than 42°, then the rainbow is below the horizon and cannot be seen as there are not usually sufficient raindrops between the horizon (that is: eye height) and the ground, to contribute. Exceptions occur when the observer is high above the ground, for example in an aeroplane (see above), on top of a mountain, or above a waterfall. A rainbow can be generated using a garden sprinkler but to get sufficient drops they must be very small.

  4. The idea that a pot of gold can be found at the rainbow's end originated somewhere in old Europe. In Silesia, an obscure area of eastern Europe, it was said that the angels put the gold there and that only a nude man could obtain the prize.A rainbow is all light and water. It is always in front of you while your back is to the sun. However, there is an old European belief that anyone passing beneath the rainbow would be transformed, man into woman, woman into man! When light and water meet in the sky on a summer's day, for a few moments, a rainbow will appear. This phenomena of the atmosphere appears during or immediately following local showers, when the sun is shining and the air contains raindrops.A rainbow can best be seen with polarized sunglasses. We cannot follow the arc of a rainbow down below the horizon, because we cannot see those droplets in the air below the horizon, but the higher we are above the ground, the more of the rainbow circle we would see. That is why, from an airplane in flight, a rainbow will appear as a complete circle with the shadow of the aitplane in the center. The order of the Rainbow spectrum is red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet.Sir Isaac Newton discovered the seven distinct colors of the visible spectrum. What we see, feel, hear, taste and smell exists between the frequencies of red and violet.Rainbows are positive energy.Rainbows have relaxing and healing qualities.A Rainbow is light refracted through millions of droplets of water. It takes both the sun and rain to make a Rainbow. The sun gives off light. The light we can see is called 'white light', but this white light isn't actually white at all, it is made up many different colour wavelengths.
