Why do oyster cards always fail!!?. I've had three oyster cards already that have failed within the first 4 weeks. Nothing happens when i touch them on the oyster card reader. They were all in good condition no scratches, not bent and looked good as new. Can anyone please tell me why and how to avoid having my new oyster fail on me. Thanks.

  1. Oyster cards suck but that seems excessive.  Do you just try another reader?  Do they fail to the point that you cant use them?  That's weird.

  2. It maybe that the cards you have been issued were from a poor batch.    .  . They are not supposed to be affected by any magnetic fields but sometimes the chip can be damaged by bending or other. ... at the end of the day it is only a piece of plastic that is all too easy to get damaged.  .. While London underground still has it's ticket offices open you should be able to get a replacement in 2 minutes with all of your pre-pay or valid ticket loaded from  the failed Oyster card.  Heaven help us when we have to call Oyster Customer Services and pay for the call as well! ... Good luck

  3. Are you keeping it near anything magnetic that may make the card unusable?
