Because if they were fake, that would've been some REALLY expensive and complex CGI work.

Does it really matter anyway and besides it is better if you were actually there in Beijing to actually get the feel despite the fireworks were faked.

Didn't look fake to me.

The guy who designed the Beijing Olympics firework was also behind HongKong Victoria Harbor new year firework and Sydney new year firework show for last few years. Nice work altogether!!
