Question:

Fake ISP Pop-Up Message?

Last night I was surfing the internet when a message popped up saying-

"We know that you have been viewing explicit material. The police have been informed."

I wasn't on any explicit sites. That's what makes me think this is a hacker.

This wasn't an ad pop-up. It was in a message box form. It also didn't allow me to open the start menu.

I closed Firefox and reopened and as soon as it opened another message just like the first popped up but the top said my ISP and LLC

the message said:

Your connection will be terminated and your now under investigation. *some number of the charge*"

Because this freaked me out I closed them without fully reading so they aren't exact quotes.

I'm thinking it was someone who used Remote Assistance to connect to me but I didn't get a confirmation window. I did have the box checked to allow people to connect to me.

I'm on a Wi-Fi with a few other people using it. But the messages popped up at about 3:40AM.

I also did not have a virus protector or firewall on the PC it happened on.

Does anyone know if this is in-fact my ISP informing me, or if its a Hacker?
