So I'm taking a girl out tonight to a nice Italian restaurant in Downtown Miami. I have never stepped foot into a fancy Italian restaurant! I just need to know if there's certain things I should know so that I don't look like a total dope in front of her =/ What wine should I order? Any tips for this Italian cuisine newbie would be much much appreciated! Thanks =D

  1. Wine is a very personal thing but to sum it all up quickly.

Red wine is for dark meats like beef lamb etc...

white wine goes with light meats like chicken and fish.

If i was you i would stick with italian wines and they always seem to be good in my opinion but the quality will vary with the price of the wine. When you go to the restraunt if you are going to pronounce any of the italian names sound it out and say it the way you see it.

  2. First, I'd check the prices before you go, so that you're sure you have enough money with you:) ....  You can ask the waiter for his wine suggestions.  Can't go wrong that way, or risk looking pretentious:)    In fact, you could also ask the waiter what he recommends to eat!   They should have specials that they'll tell you about too.  Just relax and enjoy yourself.  In a good Italian restaurant, there isn't going to be anything on the menu that ISN'T good!  You might not want to get a regular spaghetti though, because it's sometimes awkard to eat if you're trying to impress someone:)  Shaped pasta (penne, rigatoni, mostaccioli) is much easier to eat....   P.S.  I recommend Tiramisu for dessert though:)
