Question:

Fastest a 555 Timer can cycle

I'm trying to convert DC to AC and I'm looking to get the highest frequency I can. I'd like to get up in the thousands of Hz if I can.

What is the fastest that a 555 can cycle on and off?

I'm looking to experiment with wireless power transmission and from what I have read the higher the frequency the better the efficiency.

Ideal would be to transmit 3-12V over about a meter in order to power several LEDs as a remote 3rd brake light on a motorcycle helmet.

  1. There are many other ways to generate high frequencies. The 555 is designed for low frequency use. Not useful much above 100KHz.
