Sandra S. was close....but her numbers are a mile off!!  3/4 of a mile in 20.8 seconds would be 129.8 miles an hour....she chose a bad website!

The two fastest speeds ever recorded by a horse are

Big Racked at 43.26 mph in a 1/4 mile race in Mexico City, Mexico and

Onion Roll at also 43.26 mph at Thisledowns Racetrack in Cleveland, Ohio

The American quarter horse has been clocked at 50 miles per hour crossing the finish line. Kelso  won the Washington  DC International in 223 4/5 in 1964  and holds the record for 2 miles   at Aqueduct   319 1/5  Dr Fager  i believe holds the world record for a mile 132 1/5.

Thats a tricky question

because there are world records for evey set distance

as in 250 yrds up to a mile 1 &1/2 and then you have steeple chase horses !!!

Thats why there are so many different answers to your question

It WOULD BE MUCH EASIER ,,if you asked what the fast record for a horse going a mile or 6 furlongs

or 350 yrds

etc

I rode a horse in morning work outs at 6 furlongs and he was black typed as going 42.00

Fastest race speed ever recorded was 43.26 MPH by "Big Rackett", 20.8 seconds in the 1/4 mile, he was 4 years old and carried 114 lbs.

R K pointed out the typo. Sorry, chalk it up as human error..as pointed out...now corrected. I could have named many, but you asked for one horse with fastest recorded and he's "Big Rackett."
