Question:

Ferrets - Teaching Kittens Not To Bite?

I have two baby ferrets 9 weeks, at the moment and i am looking for some advice on teaching them not to bite at a young age. I understand that ferrets do use their mouths to try everything and i don't mind being teethed on but sometimes they really try to chomp down hard. I've read in books to flick their nose or scruff them and give a firm 'NO' but the scruffing doesn't work and I don't like the idea of flicking them on the nose, if there is a better way around it. Thanks for your help :)

P.S I realise that I have put this question into rodents and ferrets aren't rodents but its the closest section to small furry animals there is.

  1. scruffing doesnt work, however the flick on the nose does..

the link contains other helpful ferret info

they like to be out of their cage, so after a bite, flick them on the nose, and return them to the cage, take them back out later, after half hour or so..

    more holding will help

  2. What seems to work with my pets is making a yelping noise as soon as they bite too hard. That always surprises them and calms them down.
