Few questions about chevelle?

Ok i'm new to the muscle car thing but i do know a few things. im looking at this car, its a 71 chevelle and i want to buy it but first i want to know what kind of horsepower it has. it says 425 hp, but its a de-stroked 400ci engine (377 ci). it has a holley 750 double pumper on top. is it actually possible for this engine to produce that much power? why would someone want to de-stroke an engine? also is it possible to buy a turbo kit for a muscle car? i know it probably is but where can i find one and how much will it cost? thanks a lot for any answers lol i know thats a lot to answer.

Another reason for de-stroking is for a faster-revving engine with more horsepower. Chevy mixed and matched 283 and 327 parts to come up with the 302 and 307. The 302, with its shorter stroke, went into the first Z/28s.

There is no reason that engine wouldn't make 425hp if it was set-up and tuned right. A lot of it has more to do with the preperation of the engine than the actual size.

The 377 is a destroked 400 if I remember right. It gives you the larger bore of the 400 block with the shorter stroke of the 350. In theory that would give you the best parts of a 350 with almost 30 more cubic inches. The 383 is a 350 with a 400 crank that gives you a smaller bore with a longer stroke. In theory that would give you more power on the lower end.

If that thing is a 377 with a 750cfm carb, it was built to rev. It sounds like a really fun car.

In American muscle, superchargers are a lot more common than turbos, and probably a lot easier for a weekend wrench to install. A non-polished 6-71 will set you back $2,500 for the blower and intake. You would have to come up with the carbs. You can't just slap a blower on a motor though. There is a lot more to it than that.

THE HORSE POWER IS RATED ON A DYNO. ITS A 377 INCH MOTOR MEANS NOTHING. IT S ALL IN THE PREPWORK AND COMPRESSION AND INTERNALS. I HAVE A 385 STROKER MAKING 610 AT THE FLYWHEEL.  IF YOU DECIDE TO USE A TURBO YOU WILL HAVE CHANGE THE ENTIRE MOTOR ! LOWER COMPRESSION,DIFFERENT CAM,ADD ROLLER ROCKERS FOR HIGH RPM USE AND POSSIBLY THE LIFTERS. NEW VALVE SPRINGS FOR THAT KIND OF LOAD,THE RINGS WILL HAVE TO BE AT LEAST SINGLE MOLYS AND THERE ARE MANY OTHER THINGS YOU'LL NEED TO DO TO MAKE IT LAST WITH A TURBO.  YOU COULD JUST BOLT ONE ON BUT, IT MAY NOT LAST LONG. IF YOU DO JUST SLAP ONE ON, LIMIT TH BOOST TO 5 # TILL YOU KNOW WHAT IS EXACTLY IN THE MOTOR AND IF IT WILL HANDLE MORE THAN THAT WITHOUT LAUNCHING THE RODS THRU THE BLOCK.  GOOD LUCK
