Final Cut Express on its own?

Is it like an expansion pack, you have to have previous final cut versions, or can you use it on it's own even if you don't have any previous versions, final cut pro 2 etc.

Final Cut Express can be used on its own.

Secondly, it's basically a scaled back and much cheaper version of Final Cut Pro, not an expansion. It's aimed mainly at those who cannot quite afford FCP but want to go further than the capabilities of iMovie.
