two long walls meet at right angles. 60m of wire fence is used to form a rectangular enclosure, with the two walls forming the other two sides. find the maximum posible area for such an exnclosure

  1. this means the perimeter is 120m..then the maximum area for a constant perimeter is always a square.so the length of each side is

    120/4 = 30m......thus, the area becomes 30^2....ie...900 sq. m.


  2. The perimeter is 60 m.  A rectangle has maximum area when it is a square.  This means all four sides must be the same length,  That is length = 50 / 4 = 15.  The area is the square of the length.  That is A = length * length = 15 * 15 = 225.
