Question:

Firm movable lump at jawline

I noticed a firm mobile lump just above my right jawline about 2 weeks ago. It moved easily and was about the size of a lima bean. I went to the doc after about a week and he said it was a swollen lymph node and prescribed antibiotics and naproxin. The swelling immediately went down within 2 days.About 2 days later I woke in the middle of the night to find a pea size firm mobile lump in same area. I will add that i sleep on this side of my face the entire night. This time I pushed the lump against my jaw and it just imploded. The bump was gone. There was no fluid in my mouth. I still have a little puffiness around the area and when i'm swishing mouthwash around my mouth I notice a hard bump along my jaw. I also notice it when I tense my jaw. I have bad teeth so Im thinking this is probably something dental. Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.

  1. Your diagnosis can't be based on a description alone. Proper x-rays are needed and possibly a consultation with a specialist if it is something serious. If your bump was improved by taking anti-biotics, it is likely that it stems from something bacterial related. Take care of it like you would any other infection- healthy diet, plenty of fluids, vitamin C, and stay on your anti-biotic regiment. Go in to see a dentist immediately to rule out anything serious.

  2. Go get a dental check-up....and let them know what has been happening.
