Question:

First Bicycle Race?

This past Saturday I just finished my first bicycle race - it was 26 miles, pretty hilly course and I rode my mountain bike which is the only bike I own - I finished the ride in 2 hours and 15 minutes which is about 11.6 mph - is that a good time for a first timer? (stopped at only one rest stop - my Camelbak kept me hydrated enough)

  1. I don't know how old you are and it's hard to say without knowing the course and weather conditions. In general you should judge by how you did relative to others the same age on the same course.

12 mph isn't fast, but for a young rider on mountain bike it's a respectable speed.

The important things are a) you finished, and b) how you felt. If you want to do another race that's a good sign ... and now you know what's involved you can aim to get better.

Your should set some goals. For example, to improve and become competitive ... but remember it's all about enjoying yourself and the satisfaction of knowing you did it and did your best.

    Cheers.
