Question:

First credit card? Helpful tips? ?

I've only been 18 for a month & I have yet to obtain any credit history.

After talking it over with a lot of people, including my parents, I've decided to get a credit card. I have had a steady job for over a year now and because I'm still living with my parents, no extra expenses.

I handle my money well & have an alright savings. I'm not too worried about over spending or getting excited with it. What I've been told to do is buy things I can afford but use them to help myself a paying history.

What are the best credit cards for a new credit user? What should I expect for interest rates, etc? Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated.

  2. DO NOT OVERUSE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DO NOT HAVE MORE THAN 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    PAY IT ON TIME, EVERYTIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

u should prooly expect about a 12-15% APR which is average, once u start paying on time (if u dont, they actually increase ur APR) and show that u are responsible (after 8-12 months) u can ask for a rate reduction.  its good to have one to build credit and for emergencies but it can really get u over ur head, speaking from experience.  u should never buy anything over 1000 dollars on it and be careful when they give u line increases without telling u, its a trap for the person who loves to spend....just follow the 3 rules up top and u should be OK....

  3. Interest rates aren't that important because you should never use a credit card to buy something that you can't fully pay for at the end of the month. Paying CC interest is EXACTLY the same as throwing money away.

Try to get a card that offers airline miles or some other form of reward for using it. It you pay it off every month, you will actually get something for nothing.

  4. Don't max it out and pay your bill on time, every time.

When I was your age I was stupid and got in a hole that took me a good 5 years to dig myself out of.

  5. here are some search results.Good Luck.

  6. Pay it off every month and don't get in over your head, you should also read this article about building your credit, http://www.monitorbankrates.com/how-to-b...

  7. you will pay 16% and dont put more then half your credit line on art the same time pay more then they ask for.. ok x*x there are no best cards they all rip you off.. x*x

  8. well m 1st credit card was with capitol one. they were more than willing to help out a person with no credit in gettin a credit card. So i recommend them. I think i had a 0% interest for a year, but when u rlooking for a car make sure there is no annual fee, and i wouldnt get a card with over 10% interest. u doesnt matter on interest though as long as u pay it off before the statement come out. so just make sure u buy only when u have the money 2 actually pay for it. good luck
