Question:

First period.... THIS SUCKS.?

I'm 13. And I just got my first period today. I was peeing and I noticed red in my underwear...I started crying! It kind of creeped up on me... I don't have big b*****s, I don't have underarm hair and had no cramps that day! My mom got me ultra thin pads. What about tampons? Because I love to swim with my friends during the summer! And it would suck if I missed out, but my mom said no tampons.

I'm kind of moody right now. What are some things I can do to cheer up?

Any overall tips?

Thanks!

  1. Congrats? I got my first period when I was 12 and it really freaked me out. I have two older sisters but I was at summer camp when it came so I had to do some quick thinking haha. I didn't start using tampons until I had my period for over a year. They get some getting used to also. Moodiness is a definite thing that I have to deal with too. I actually started my period today again and I was a complete wreck. Last night I was crying for an hour over pointless things but I find that if I busy myself and control my attitude I don't notice the mood swings and they're less frequent. ALSO, motrin IB is my life during my period. It is amazingness in a pill. :)

  2. well you can swim with your period because the pressure of the water stops blood from flowing.

your being moody is perfectly normal

    congratulations.

  3. Well when I got my period it was kind of a happy day. All of my friends are older than me so I was pretty much the youngest one of all of them. It means you're growing up!!

Umm if your period is heavy you might want to get some bigger pads. Especially for sleeping!

Tampons are my life, really. I don't understand why your mom would say no because really they're great. I find that pads feel like diapers. If you end up getting tampons then make sure you get the right absorbancy.

If you get cramps Midol is good hahah :)

    Good luck!!

  4. Hi, I had mine when I was 13 and I freaked out!  YOur doing better than I was!  Your mom is wise for not letting you use tampons on your first period.  They hurt if you do it wrong, and It take a little while to get use to, I suggest waiting a couple months before useing them.  Well the summer is almost over so I don't think YOu'll need them, Jsut go a few days with out swimming and you'll be fine.

And I suggest eating chocolate!  It always makes me happy!  And taking a long bath.

I hope  helped you, Your period will get better.  Welcome to woman hood.

  5. I tried wearing tampons but I couldn't get myself to push that thing up there lol. Kinda scary. Just do what I do. Wear a small panty liner in your bathing suit. If your friends decide to go in the pool, but say I don't feel like it. I'm just going to sunbathe. Or you can just tell them the truth. They will obviously understand. It's no biggy don't worry. Everyone gets it. I'm 13 too and hate mine. Today I'm so weird and mody and crampy. Ughhh why us right? Common child birth and this? Lol that's just not fair.

  6. now you are a woman. be happy.

  7. You should def talk to your mom about using tampons.. you can do anything in them and they can't hurt you. You will soon get underarm hair .. and ur breast may or may not get bigger there is no way to tell... but u should have a party with ur friends and some boys.. then have ur friends sleep over after and u can ask them to tell u some of their period stories and watch ur fav movie.. i am sure some have worse ones than you. but as far as overall tips..

1.sleep in pads it may suck but u dont want to risk leaving in a tampon that long

    2. if ur mom lets u use tampons buy the lite ones with plastic applicator

    3. it will be uncomfortable at first and u may not be able to get it in on the first try.. but keep trying and read the slip that comes in the box.. that helps alot

    4. if you cant get it in put a little bit of vasoline (petroleom jelly) on the tip of the applicator.

    5. dont be scared if removing the tampon hurts, that is only because u took it out too early.

    6. always be sure before you leave the bathroom y u are wearing short shorts or a bathing suit, that you cannot see the string of the tampon.

    7. for school or going out anywhere make sure you have tons of extra feminine products... you made need to give some to women/girls in need and then not have enough for yourself

    8. if u run out don't be scared to ask for some! school nurses and any public first aid place have some.. and most women have some.. they know what u are going through and they wont embarrass u but handing it to u in public.. they understand

    9. YOU CAN SWIM WEARING NOTHING... the blood gets stopped in the water because of water pressure so u can swim with ur friends even if mom says no tampons... but if she gives in u should wear the tampon in the pool anyways.. and if u are having a heavy day, usually the second or third day then make sure u have a towel to wrap urself in right as u get out if ur not wearing anything or else u may dripp

    Good Luck.. Feel Better

    xoxo Sav

  8. URGGHHH, you sound like me the day I got mine lol.

My mom said no tampons too. You should buy them yourself and explain to your mom you want to use them, and why. They'll probably be uncomfortable the first few times, but pads are even MORE uncomfortable in the long run, and embarassing!

  9. I'm not sure why your mom is against tampons, but they're the ONLY thing I use for periods.

You can't exactly go swimming with a bloody sanitary pad, that's for sure.  Tampons, in general, also ensure less odor from period blood.

Since you're new at this and if you DO decide to go to the tampon route, I'd suggest plastic applicators.  (Just make sure you don't flush them.)  They're easier to insert if you're standing up.  Regular absorbency should be OK, and make sure you change it after 4 hours or so (risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome).

    GOod luck! :)

  10. congratulations! this sould be a huge deal for you! your a women! ok so basically its really stressing at first. im 13 too and i got mine when i was 12. here are some tips:

*do a bunch of exercise, that helps the cramps

*DO NOT eat lime, chilly, eggs,or anything else that is sour because that just makes your cramps worse.

    *change pads every 3 hours

    *mood swings are totally normal

*and finally..dont stress, you'll live with thios for the rest of your life till your 50 or so,so get used to it
