ok.2 questions... 1.what type of fish do you use fatheads for?

2. for pickerels, do you need a steel leader,( i know its for bluefish).? cuz me and my friend both almost caught monster pickerel like 25 inches, but the line kept breaking from its teeth.i kept catching little pickerel like 14 inches but i want to catch a big one.,?. oh yeah and i have a pond in my yard and i brang like a 14 inch pickerel in it, (im starting to think it was a bad idea cuz doesnt it eat smaller fish? i caught the pickerel with shiners and worms.. do u know what i could feed it?

  1. They thrive on small fish... fresh water barracuda (pickerel, pike, muskie)

    catching them on corn was a fluke....they aren't vegetarians...like carp or suckers...

  2. We have a lot of pickerel here in New Jersey. I like the eastern chain pickerel myself, they put up one heck of a fight and they do have some teeth. You can use a steel leader on these guys, they are not leader shy. However, I wouldn't put any more pickerel in your pond unless you know something about the age class of the fish already in there. This guy will help to keep the panfish level in check.

    Regarding the fatheads, bass, catfish, pickerel, pike, most all predator fish. Tight lines and keep the pickerel out of the koi ponds!!!
