Fishing questions?

i've been fishing for about a year now, but i have yet to catch a bass, so i wanna ask in a lake or a large pond, should i cast my lure to the middle of the lake or the shore? i used to cast my lure to thick water grass, but i lost many spinners so i decided to not do that anymore.

how does it feel when a bass strike the lure, is it really obvious? cuz all i catch are crappies and they dont really put up a fight, so i might have let go of some basses cuz i didn't know they strike.

i know this depends on the weather, the fish and my skills, but what is the best kind of lure to catch bass in your opinion? i use worms, spinners, crankbaits and somtime spoons. its kinda discourage when i keep casting and try to crank my bait or slow down the worm and still nothing bait.

btw im from northeast ohio, if that help answer some of my questions.

any other tips are welcome, thanks!

  1. Always throw TO the cover. If you're familiar with your fishing hole, you should know where the ledges and overhangs are.  There are a lot of "fishing shows on tv you can watch and see how they do it. It would be a lot faster than this. Yes...you'll know when a bass strikes....but you have to be quick cause they will spit out a lure.

  2. use your spinner bait and cast into the thick grass... spinners are very weedless.. you shouldnt get hooked up... The bass just love the cover... if the spinner dosent work try useing a zoom weedless plastic frog and just reel it over the thick grass. The bass bite is awesome it makes your rod tip go from side to side... because when the bass strike your lure he'll take it and pop a U-turn and go back to where he was hiding... hope this helps

  3. Hi There!

First off, don't get discouraged, keep at it. As far as how it feels to have a bass hit, well it takes years of catching them to be able to determine the type of fish just by the way it takes the lure. In general they would feel about the same as a crappie, just fight harder once you have them hooked.

Concerning where to cast, it really depends on the body of water that you are fishing. Ask some local fisherman where the fish and what they use. My favorite baits are soft plastics, like rubber worms. They are extremely versatile, and can catch fish anywhere. Try out some Kinami stick baits, they work wonders. Always throw your bait toward cover, thats where bass hang out. Lily Pads, Rocks, Submerged Logs, Drop-Offs, etc. These are places guaranteed to have bass sitting on them.

Keep up the fishing, you'll get that bass soon! Good Luck!

  4. When your fishing for bass you will feel their bite if your fishing spinnerbaits or a lure of that sort your lure will most of the time just stop. The saying i live by is "you may find cover without bass but you will probably never find a bass without cover" that sums it up.

                                                          Good Luck and Tight Lines

  5. find a dock or other natrual shelter, unless you got a boat and trolling gear

  6. For bass fishing reports no matter where you are try www.my-fishing-report.com. Its an interactive world fishing map that you can zoom into and screen for your type of fish and preferred method of fishing.  You'll be able to find fishermen in your area to connect with about specific lures, bait and other tips!  Also right now there's a free lure offer on the site.
