Five Players England Need To Replace

England’s World Cup campaign was nothing short of a train crash, and it’s time change was brought into the team. Capello has targeted a few players that he feel’s can bring life back into the team, however there are a few players who should probably never play for England again.

David Beckham, what was he doing in South Africa? Was there any purpose to him even being there? The bench was kept warm throughout England’s campaign by him, but the bench is supposed to be a place for managers and not mascots and cheerleaders. On the other hand Beckham’s playing days are surely over, he should stay in the team only on a publicity basis, he can’t make the same impact that he could have had a couple of years ago. It would be beneficial for the squad if they focused more on the youth than bringing back older players.

David James was one of the better keepers on the England squad, but the fact that he’s nearly forty years old means he won’t be playing for much longer. The team needs to build for the future and they can only do so if they have a committed long term keeper. The only possible replacement for James is, Joe Hart. Being much younger and willing to learn he can offer to the team what James can’t any more.

John Terry, was one of the main reasons for disruptions amongst the English squad, his constant scandals and him not realizing he isn’t captain any more took more away from the team than it gave. What can be said for sure is that John Terry no longer deserves a place in the England back four, he has had some solid years in the past but the fact that the modern game revolves around pace and that John Terry has none, it is only signaling the end of his international career.

Emile Heskey was one of the worst players to ever play in an England jersey. Heskey has scored seven goals in his sixty two appearances for the club, there are goal keepers who have a better scoring average then Heskey’s. The theory to Heskey’s inclusion was that he was good to play alongside with, after watching him play alongside Rooney, it is safe to say that that theory was absolutely rubbish. There can’t be room on a team for an overweight, old, slow striker who can’t really score.

Frank Lampard was one of the biggest disappointments on the England squad. He was a mere shadow of the player who had another fantastic season with Chelsea. There is no doubt Lampard is one of the most experienced and technically gifted players out there but his failure to constantly perform for the England team needs to be taken into account. The two best midfielders on the England roster are, Lampard and Gerrard. With Gerrard being captain and consistently performing for the team, most people would agree that it’s time to let Frank Lampard leave the team.
