Fixing Holes in a Boat?

Question

I have a 9 foot fiber glass boat and I bought it for 50 bucks but there was a small hole at one of the back corners. Its not that big but you can see the crack if you look closely and it looks like the guy before me put silicon over a bigger hole or something.

cover it with something, like plywood or oak. Maybe Alex. Or you can get a refund and buy a new one, and if that one has a hole, refund that. If you don't want a refund, go to an expert.

First clean up the area around the hole with a sanding disk to find out how big the actual damage is. If it is not too big, you can repair it yourself with an epoxy product you can find at just about any hardware store. Fiberglass products are not hard to use so don't be afraid of them.

Take a file or small grinder and cut down into the crack so you have clean fiberglass to stick to.  Mix up a small batch of fiberglass resin with some chopped up fiberglass and fill the cut using a Putty knife.  Let it cure and when it is hard, sand it smooth then sand the area about six inches to each side of the crack and put resin and then fiberglass matting over the area, when that is hard, sand the area feathering the edges to almost smooth.  Then give it another coat of resin to fill in the small pocks left by the bubbles.  Then sand that smooth and paint it.  Put a coat of fiberglass on the inside if the crack went all the way though.
