  1. clean your guniea pigs fur, nose , foot and bottom cause maybe they stepped on something.

  2. sorry i cant help.but im having the same problem.but they are laying worms!so.next time u change there cage look and make sure that there isnt any.

  3. i have 3 guinea pigs and they have a pretty big cage. How big is your cage? guinea pigs to pee and p**p a lot so What i'd do is put newspaper down first and then shavings and then build a bigger cage. Maybe you could get some spray or something, or disinfectant

  4. Hm..try these options:

    1. Clean the cage twice a week.

    2. Close all windows/doors

    3. You might need to do a bug bomb but make SURE all animals and their foods and such are out of the house. READ the directions on the bomb and FOLLOW them! Oh, and this goes for fish too. (My mom didn't think about the fish and killed them all)

    4. Pour Bleach down all drains-

It prob. started out one or two then they multiplied. You need to find their nests. Alot of times well you understand, run garbage disposals/pour bleach down sinks, watch the amount of food you let sit out (Apples,Bananas ect) You are feeding them.

    Good Luck!

  5. well there is actually nothing you really can do the only reason the flies are flying around it because the smell of your guinea pigs and you can not help the smell of the guinea pigs because that is just the way they smell and that is because of their natrual oils and stuff like that to make them want to fly around it!

  6. Uh Oh. Check the piggies bottoms to make sure the flies aren't laying maggots. I think you can get some shampoo/spray that you can bathe them in to keep away flies.

  7. Okay well you need to remove their dirty bedding, I don;t what season it is where you are. But heer in England its summer, and because of the hot weather, we have to remove dirty bedding atleast twice a week and replace it with clean bedding. You don;t have to give the cage a full-on clean, just remove the bedding. Its the poo and wee that attract the flies, so they easiest way to get rid of them is to get rid of that. Flies will want to lay their eggs your piggies faeces, the eggs will then hatch into maggots, which will then burrow into your guinea pigs, this is called flystrike and its often lethal, and more common in rabbits.

Also if they are kept in your house doesn;t it bother you that there are this many flies in your house, because it sure would bother me. You do get a spray to protect guinea pigs from flystrike, so go to a pet shop and take a look around for one.

  8. I am having the same problem. Please let me know if you find a solution. I am doing the same thing you are doing. Putting up sticky paper and placing bowls of vinegar, If they are fruit flies, they cant resist the smell.

If I find something that works, I will let you know.
