if london got a water surge then where would it stop to be as high as it is shown on tv?

would it just get shallower as it surged through the city?

  1. Yes, it would get shallower as it went along.  Once it stabilized there would be an overall level.

    Storm and tidal surges both tend to have a crest that moves into an area and then it drops right behind it.


  2. Andrew is right, once the total volume of water has found its center it will even out and eventually wash back to sea.  You could handle one, but you would be in deep if there were a series of surges, which usually happens with a tsunami.
